kelli Hermit Crabs

We have two new pets in the house, Staryu and Onyx. Two hermit crabs, both named after Pokemon. My boys love them, but not near as much as my two year old. She has to see them first thing every morning. Carefully picking them up by their shell and letting them crawl on the tile floor or a piece of paper. I enjoy them too - easy pets! I read that you can use regular sand instead of the very expensive "Hermit Crab sand" is this true and has anyone tried that? Just wondering if there are any othe… Continue

kelli Dr. Phil (Not) Now

I was a fan of Dr. Phil in the beginning I'll admit, but now...

I am watching the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he showed a clip from Dr. Phil's new show, aptly titled: Dr. Phil NOW, which showcases you guessed it, Dr. Phil and his new set. The set features a hundred television screens, that will show the breaking news and then Dr. Phil will tell us how to react to "the breaking news". (Featured pictures of Paris/Brittany/Etc.)

Sounds riveting.…

Chad T Introducing Claudia

We love pets and we can’t really have any by regulations so we found a way around that. We adopted Claudia. She is a desert colored praying mantis. She is really fun to have around even though she does not move very much. She has been in the office for about a week. I thought she was just lazy but after reading up on her I guess she is sitting and waiting on something to kill and eat. They ca

kelli What's the Blog deal?

Blogging is a lot like writing a column for the newspaper, although here in our tiny YourTurn community there are less eye balls viewing it. Less pressure I suppose :) I like to read blogs by people I don't know, there's the Bourboncowboy I stumbled upon somewhere, from New York I think. There was a mother of three I followed for a while just because of the similarities. I check out a lot of local political bloggers, just to see what SD democrats are up to. I wonder what it is that keeps ever…

kelli Back to School!

Today I dropped my children off at Lennox Elementary as Second Graders! The rain and dreary weather didn't dampen any spirits as all the kids seemed excited to be back in school. I'm sure I'll get the full report at the end of the day. The first day is down - now nine months to go! Continue

kelli My new favorite thing...

Since I work on the computer A LOT, music is my constant companion. My favorite source of musical entertainment these days is www.pandora.com. This website allows you to create your own one-of-a-kind radio station based on any artist or song. I have lots of "stations" I alternate bewteen depending on the mood of the day. Seriously though, pandora.com is amazing.... just thought you'd like to know. Continue

kelli South Dakota technologically challenged?

Affordable broadband? An excerpt from a Newsweek article (True or False: U.S.’s Broadband Penetration Is Lower Than Even Estonia’s) this week, “Although President George W. Bush promised during his re-election campaign that all Americans would have access to affordable broadband by 2007, many rural Americans have no way to connect. It’s impossible to tell how many, in part because of the bizarre way the FCC measures the issue: if just a single building in an entire ZIP code is connected—a… Continue

kelli Remembering Florence...

This past weekend we were camping and a phone call Saturday informed us there had been a murder in Lennox. The words seemed foreign and absurd. After learning some of the details, I just felt sad. Florence was a talkative woman that loved to share her passion of corn-husking with us at the office. She’d stay and chat about her life, her family, her days that had gotten tougher as life kept going. At 81, she was told by the doctors to quit entering the corn-husking competitions. She was sad about… Continue

Debbie S Alzheimers

I'm going to visit my mother this weekend. She is in a nursing home; she has Alzheimers. Unless you have a family member with this disease, you can't possibly understand what it is like. When they portray someone on television with the disease, it is not anything like real Alzheimers. You lose your family members slowly; they change, and at first, you don't recognize what the problem is. When we'd visit Mom in her own home, she'd repeat stories, get mad at family members, have trouble playing ca… Continue

Debbie S A vision for Lennox

Lennox is a small town just 15 miles from South Dakota largest city, Sioux Falls. I think it is the very best spot to be in South Dakota. We enjoy all the benefits of living in a small town, yet we can get to the mall or theater quicker than some of the Sioux Falls residents. I like walking up and down the streets and hearing all the people greet you as you pass. We have a lot to offer in Lennox - a great park, swimming pool, great schools, an active senior center, a Main Street business distric… Continue
